CODING AID
When data files from census or governmental surveys or records are used in research, codes for occupations are already supplied and our tables of scores provide for an easy translation from those codes to our scores. When data used in research come from some administrative records or private surveys, however, it is likely that researchers will have to determine into which occupation category in our tables of scores the occupation description in the record or survey best fits. We have devised a means for helping to make that determination for the 2000 set of scores.

The link below includes a list of over 30,000 occupation descriptions given on census and survey forms and the detailed occupation codes assigned by the U.S. Census Bureau, to which we have attached the NPB-OSS scores for 2000.
